Elections and Truth
Here we are, about 2 weeks since the election here in the United States and there are still tons of unanswered questions, including who is going to be president come January 2021. If you are reading that first line and thinking to yourself, "what unanswered questions?" then you are exactly the person that needs to read this. If you only take in MSM (mainstream media) and MSE (mainstream evangelicalism) then you may be completely unaware of all the accusations and evidence being presented that seems to be pointing in the direction of at least some voter/election fraud that took place in this election. It seems that all the big names have decided that there's just nothing to see here, Biden is the winner, and anyone who questions this is simply a sore loser, refusing to accept defeat! (project much?)
No, it's not a matter of being a sore loser, it's actually a matter of truth, and if you are a Christian, then this should matter to you too! For Christians, Truth is foundational to what we believe. Jesus tells us that He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and that no one gets to the Father but by Him! We are to be sanctified, meaning transformed into the image of Jesus by Truth. We may be living in a culture that denies truth exists, but we are separate from the culture and live by the Truth, and without it we will not glorify God. Being created in the image of God, and now having been reconciled to God by the blood of the Son, truth should matter and be sought after no matter the cost.
But instead, what I have seen is that there seems to be an attempt to avoid seeking truth and rather be content on just accepting whatever is presented to us as fact. Facts that you are not allowed to question, that only wants to examine evidence that aligns with what they are presenting and looks to undermine all challengers by calling them names and making allegations that it has no way of proving. This is a worldly way of responding to truth, and it's Satan's way since the beginning. Did God really say??? Is that really true? Doesn't it sound better like this? Shouldn't you believe what makes you feel good and what makes you god?
Here's what we have before us today, an election full of irregularities, challenges being brought before the court, thousands of signed affidavits and supposed evidence yet to be presented but we are told will be presented. On the other side we have, shut up, believe us, stop questioning us, stop looking into things, there's nothing to see here, just believe us and behave. It's being pushed from everywhere, but why? If there's really nothing to see, why can't we let this play out? Why are we being forced to accept an election that has not yet been officially called? Why can't we wait to see what happens? Maybe Biden did win, wouldn't it be in his best interest to let this play out if there's really nothing to see? When the party that has spent four years questioning the last election, wants to shut down any opposition to the current election one would be an idiot not to at least ask some questions!
This should not be a partisan issue because it is only a benefit to the entire country to have confidence in the results of the election. We have to look at all the evidence, it must be allowed to be brought out into the light and only then should we make a decision regarding who won and what really took place. As a Christian first and as a citizen of the United States second, I want to see all the evidence, and want to know what the truth is and you should too! If you haven't even looked into what the allegations are and yet have made up your mind, then you are already failing to do your due diligence as a Christian by choosing instead to just trust the world.
The MSM, over the last few years, have proved themselves to be untrustworthy. They have slandered, ignored uncomfortable truths and evidence in other cases, and obviously remained biased in all things pertaining to this election. Therefore, they are unqualified to make any suggestions, or calls in this case and if you are taking their word for it, then you do not care about truth. Social media has played its part as well, by silencing one side over and over again, and pushing only that which is also being pushed by the MSM. I'm not saying therefore that you have to go out and start reading rightwing media sources, though if you are reading/watching one then you should indeed read/watch both for balance! But at least, we should be willing to wait for all things to run their course before we jump on any train claiming to know that which we can't possibly know.
If you are a Christian then you must care about truth, and that means you need to wait before you make any claim that you cannot possibly know to be true. Who won this election? I don't know, and neither do you, so stop believing the hype, stop bowing to the culture and instead trust in God. Why we have some popular evangelicals willing to accept the word of secular sources simply because they have been right before is foolish at best and possibly sinful, depending on the motivation. If there was massive fraud, then pray it comes out, if there wasn't, then pray that comes out, if there was only some, then we should still seek to know. This should not be primarily about an election for us, but rather about the truth and the glory of God. As for the results of the election, trust in Jesus who sits on His throne ruling the nations and making His enemies a footstool. Come January someone will be sworn in, and the world will continue to move closer to a day that every knee will bow and tongue confess, "Jesus is Lord".
